Cervical Cancer Immunisation

For immunisation purposes, LISOD Hospital uses Cervarix and Gardasil vaccines. The cervical cancer immunisation process is prescribed in three stages within six months.

The medicine is injected intramuscularly. The only contraindication is if the patient is pregnant or breast feeding.

The Cervarix vaccination is for women who want to prevent infection from the two most common oncogenic human papillomaviruses (HPV) types 16 and 18. These cause over 70 per cent of total cervical cancer cases around the world. The Gardasil vaccine is an additional protection against condylomata acuminata which is caused by HPV types 6 and 11.

After the cervical cancer immunisation procedure is over, regular consultations with a gynaecologist are still recommended.
