What Does The Fight With Wancer Start With? Alla Vinnytska Speaks at a Conference in Kiev

June 1, 2016 - NEWS

What does the fight with cancer start with? With the consultation of an oncologist? "No", answers Professor Alla Vinnytska, "with the right actions of primary level specialists." This vital topic was raised by LISOD's Chief Medical Officer at the scientific and practical conference "The Multidisciplinary Approach in Pediatrics and Family Medicine."

The event was held on May 31st in Kiev. The medical forum gathered obstetricians, pediatricians, infectious disease specialists, family doctors, gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, immunologists and other specialists. These doctors discussed the treatment of various diseases, including approaches in family medicine.

The information given in the report by Alla Vinnytska titled "What Should Non-oncologists Know About Oncology?” has become a real guide of action for family physicians. Normally, with any alarming symptoms, people turn first to a clinic or a family doctor. The chief medical officer of the Hospital of Israeli Oncology explained that the task of these experts is to hold a competent diagnostics including sending for an ultrasound examination, chest X-rays, and endoscopies. "The main thing is to identify cancer at an early stage, when there are high chances of a full recovery", highlighted Professor Vinnytska, "for example, if the patient complains of pain in the stomach, the family doctor or therapist should direct him to a gastroscopy. If a tumour is detected, there is nothing else required from the doctor, they have done all that is necessary. Now, the patient should seek a specialized medical institution that is designed to treat cancer. However, the main thing for the family doctor is to send a person to be examined before the first symptoms. Doctors need to communicate with their patients, to know their family history, and to understand who is at risk."

Alla Vinnytska talked about the screening programmes, the examinations of people who consider themselves to be healthy and who should take them, when they should be taken and what they consist of. The experienced oncologic gynecologist paid attention to screening of the most common types of cancer: breast, cervical, prostate, and bowel. Fellow colleagues did not let the chief medical officer of LISOD leave for a while as they questioned in detail about screening programmes operating in the Hospital of Israeli Oncology, consulted about specific cases, and sincerely thanked her for the interesting, rich and important report.

The report by Alla Vinnytska helped family doctors determine the priorities and the main goal, which is to be the first barrier to the spread of cancer in Ukraine, a base of the struggle with cancer.
