The Impossible Life Saving - LISOD Conducts a Surgery of Exceptional Complexity

July 25, 2015 - NEWS

With a BMI (Body Mass Index) equal to 57, a woman received  a laparoscopic panhysterectomy with pelvic lymph node sampling, hernioviscerolysis and IPOM-hernio plasty with a Sil-Promesh prosthesis of 30x30 cm. This means that during one surgical intervention, specialists performed an oncologic surgery and the removal of the hernia followed by surgery by a hernia defect.

Technically, the surgery was very complicated - a 68 year old patient with his weight exceeding 130 kg and with related diseases (diabetes, hypertension, arrhythmia, etc.). The main diagnosis was cancer of the endometrium on the background of fibromyoma and a postoperative irreducible ventral hernia. In the past, the woman underwent a nephrectomy and cholecystectomy.

A huge load was carried by the anesthesiologist. After all our most experienced specialist Vladimir Zhuk, laid the responsibility on him for the safety of the patient during surgery. It was not just a problem of exceptional difficulty, but almost extreme, taking into consideration all of the negative factors such as the "bouquet" of diseases, the body mass index, and the patient's age.

Our professionals completed the almost impossible to save this woman's life. The surgery was a success. The total duration of the surgery was 2.5 hours, with the gynecologic oncology stage taking approximately 1.1 hours and the hernio-plasty taking 1.4 hours.
