"In the Interests of Health” – What They Were Talking About in Lvov

April 16, 2019

Working on Saturday for our doctors is not an exception, but the opportunity to make an even greater contribution to the treasury of the patients’ health. And if there is a
chance to take part in the conference or seminar, then the question of whether to go or not to go is not even raised. Of course, go! Let it be even across half the country to
discuss news and achievements in one or another direction of oncology.

On April 13, the leading oncogynecologist of Israeli Oncological Hospital LISOD, Chief Medical Officer, Professor Alla Vinnytska took part in the International Workshop of the European Federation of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. 350 attendees from all regions of Ukraine and speakers from Austria and the UK came for the event in Lviv. According to Alla Borisovna it was “a meeting of likeminded people, spiced with the pleasure of communication and hot fruitful discussions with international experts in colposcopy”.

Oncologic diseases in our country do not take the first lines in medical reports, but, unfortunately, they very often become the cause of death. And the matter is late detection of the disease. Gynecologists do not stop saying that every woman must regularly undergo a regular check-up, at least once a year. In addition, it is very important to take the PAP test – a cytological examination that reveals abnormalities in the cells of the cervix. If by the results of PAP test pathologic cells are seen, then the doctor may recommend to undergo colposcopy (examination of the vaginal entrance, the walls of the vagina and the vaginal part of the cervix with a multiple increase) with a biopsy. This makes it possible to reliably access the changes and to make an accurate diagnosis.

Participants of the International Workshop discussed a lot of topics: human papillomavirus (the main cause of cervical cancer) and HPV vaccination; screening and
biopsy. In addition, complex cases and joint decisions on them were considered. Different points of view were expressed in discussions, but it’s a common knowledge that truth springs from the argument. It is remarkable that Ukrainian doctors do not stay aside from the achievements of science and constantly increase the level of knowledge and skills. This gives hope to every patient from our country that their disease will be timely diagnosed and successfully cured.
