Hoping For the Best. News From Amsterdam

June 19, 2019

For LISOD physicians to be at the epicenter of global scientific events is a must. After all, so directly from the mouth of researchers and colleagues of world renown, you can hear the most important information. Thanks to new knowledge, methods and medications, cancer treatment is reaching a new level, and patients' chances to overcome the disease increase.

The annual congress of the European Hematological Association is the main meeting of European hematologists and an important platform for meeting specialists from around the world. This year the 24th congress was held in Amsterdam (Netherlands), and it gathered more than 12 thousand participants - a record number in the entire history of the event!

“EHA is a unique forum for sharing innovations,” said Alla Lychko, a forum participant, a chemotherapist and oncohematologist at LISOD Israeli Oncological Hospital. “The main advantage of the event: the most relevant information and studies that have not been previously published. Experts openly share ideas - and for a specialist oncohematologist this is the most important source of data.”

At the congress were presented the preliminary results of a study that studied the effect of the medicine polatuzumab-vedotin in patients with recurrent diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The medicine showed significant potential for improving clinical outcomes, including patient survival. It was also emphasized that the new medicines "Kimraya" and "Eskarta" against recurrent and refractory large B cell lymphoma show a high effectiveness of treatment.

The most interesting and promising area in oncology today is immunotherapy. It is fundamentally different from both chemotherapy and targeted therapy, primarily due to the fact that immunotherapy does not have a direct effect on the tumor cell. The antitumor effect is achieved through indirect effects on the tumor. In this direction, the results of the treatment of Hodgkin`s disease with the medication Kitruda were presented.

A congress of this level is an event that is better to attend once than to hear or read about it a hundred times. And we are proud that LISOD specialists keep their hands on the pulse of time and become participants in the most important international meetings. That’s how their daily practice includes new diagnostic tools, innovative therapies and more effective drugs for the treatment of cancer.
