Equation with one unknown: new approaches in the treatment of rare cancers

March 4, 2019

Cancer for centuries was for doctors and scientists a riddle, which they tried in vain to solve. But in recent years, experts have significantly advanced in understanding the causes of the disease and methods of its treatment. However, there are still “dark spots” on this path, where the main discoveries are still ahead. This is especially true for rare cancers.

From February 28 to March 2, the First International Congress on Rare Tumors took place, bringing together over 800 specialists from different countries at one site. The purpose of the event is to discuss the achievements of science, the latest medical experience and technologies in the field of diagnostics and treatment of rare types of cancer, as well as the development of recommendations for specialized specialists in the effective diagnosis and treatment of this type of disease.

On Saturday, our colleague also visited the forum – a leading oncologist, surgeon, deputy chief medical officer for surgical work of LISOD Sergey Baido. Within the section of rare gastrointestinal tumors, he presented a case from his clinical practice and spoke about the treatment of an unknown abdominal tumor.

“The trip turned out to be very warm and productive: I learned a lot of interesting things, met many old friends, got acquainted with several interesting colleagues. Nice “weekend”! I wish I could have more like this!” – Sergey Viktorovich shared his impressions.
