Eduard Maiberg: "I Knew That When There Was a Desire to Do Noble Work, to Save Human Lives, Nothing Could Stop It"

March 31, 2017 - NEWS

Speakers talked about the results of 10 years of LISOD activity at a press-conference on March 30th, which took place in the UNIAN Press Centre.

The speakers were:

• Chairman of The LISOD Board and founder Eduard Maiberg;

• Managing partner of LISOD Michael Amzel;

• LISOD chief medical officer Professor Alla Vinnytska;

• Leading clinical oncologist of LISOD Professor Abraham Kuten;

• Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Israeli Ambassador in Ukraine Eliav Bilotserkivskiy.

The press conference was opened by Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Israeli Ambassador in Ukraine.

"I would like to congratulate LISOD on their anniversary", said Eliav Bilotserkivskiy, "They are still very young, but they have accumulated sufficient experience. LISOD's activity is an example of the usage of most advanced Israeli experience abroad." The Israeli Ambassador stressed that it is important for Ukraine today to convey these experience in the areas in which Israel has advantages over other countries, and this what the Israeli medicine is now.

In 2007, LISOD was the first in several areas: multidisciplinary approach, planning radiotherapy with the usage of linear accelerators, low-traumatic surgery, a personal administrating system, educational programmes for doctors and much more. The hospital runs screening programmes to identify the most common types of cancer. It is the test of people who consider themselves healthy that can detect cancer at a stage when treatment is effective, less time-consuming and less expensive than in the case of the disease beig neglected.

One of the most significant factors of LISOD's activity was the introduction of the principles of evidence-based medicine. Chairman of the LISOD Board, Eduard Maiberg spoke about how important it was to bring into the country evidence-based medicine and to treat patients on the basis of protocols and methods approved worldwide by the medical community. "For ten years we have combined and will combine two approaches in the future - the individual approach to the patient and the principles of evidence-based medicine", Eduard Maiberg explained. It has been essential to change the situation in the entire Ukrainian medicine and oncology in particular. LISOD was followed, and today the international treatment protocols began to be implemented in practice at national level. "Officials doubted", Eduard Maiberg proclaims, "and that proved to me that the private hospital could not deal with oncology. But I knew for sure that when there was a desire to do noble work, to save human lives, then nothing could stop it. That was what I told them."

Since the opening of the hospital, Israeli and Ukrainian experts work in the same team. Chief medical officer Professor Alla Vinnytska mentioned the principle of an "inverted pyramid" acting in LISOD where every patient immediately gets a consultation with a high-class doctor, without losing vital time in the walk through the doctors’ offices: "Only in our hospital do Israeli oncologists work on a permanent basis, they receive patients on a daily basis. The final treatment plan is developed through a multidisciplinary board of tumour specialists of different profiles as a multidisciplinary approach is the only correct choice in the treatment of any type of cancer."

For 10 years, LISOD has shared with Ukrainian colleagues all of its achievements and experience. This point was emphasized by LISOD's managing partner Michael Amzel: "I am pleased with the fact that we were able to prove to ourselves and everyone that our plan was successful. We have a wonderful team, we are willing to share our knowledge and do it almost weekly. Every week doctors come to us for workshops, and each month we hold seminars and conferences."

Professor Abraham Kuten talked about what innovative methods were shared by Israeli experts of The Israeli Oncology Hospital. The internationally renowned doctor talked about the use of targeted therapy and immunotherapy, about the successful use of biological products for the treatment of a set of diseases that have recently been incurable, and about the study of the genetic profile of the tumour, which has become a platform for personalized medicine.

Today, LISOD uses all modern scientific achievements and will further develop these areas.
