Cancer diagnostics: how not to miss a diagnosis

July 16, 2019

If we are talking about cancer, the cost of an erroneous diagnosis may be too high. Unfortunately, errors in research are still not so rare. But an accurate diagnosis is the
basis for prescribing an effective treatment!

We live in an era of cancer treatment revolution. The best results are possible if the patient receives personalized therapy - that is, the treatment that has been thought out and calculated for a specific person and his tumor. The first and most important step in making a correct diagnosis is histological examination. Other methods (for example, CT or ultrasound) can show where the tumor is, but they cannot “recognize” its features. Only a thorough study of the cells helps to determine the tactics of action and brings understanding to the further prediction.

At the Israeli Oncological Hospital LISOD they know how important it is to determine exactly what type of tumor you have to deal with. After all, it also happens that the primary tumor cannot be detected, and only its metastases are diagnosed. In this case, only the study of the tissue sample dots the i’s and crosses the t’s.

In order to exclude the possibility of an error and to obtain maximum information about the tumor, we necessarily verify the diagnosis in the leading laboratory in Germany. We must be sure that the patient receives the treatment he needs. The conclusion of the German experts allows us to make sure that the diagnosis is established correctly. Thus, even rare and complex diseases are diagnosed, and in Ukraine there are not so many opportunities for such a diagnostics.

At the same time, LISOD has its own pathological laboratory, which fully complies with the requirements that apply to the laboratory of the oncological hospital. Here the whole spectrum of biochemical, cytological, histological, immunohistochemical studies is carried out.

Histological rapid diagnostics is possible in the laboratory. This makes it possible for surgeons, right during the surgery, to determine whether there was sufficient intervention, whether a little more tissue needs to be removed so that tumor cells are absent in the section.

The use of wide diagnostic capabilities allows LISOD specialists to minimize the path to the correct diagnosis for each patient, taking into account the information received, to give recommendations and prescribe an effective treatment.
